Whoo hoo! Finally! One of my images has placed in the Wedding Photojournalist Association worldwide’s contest. Thanks to Lynn & Tim for providing me with the awesome image.

Kade & Ashe – Twins!!!
Posted on March 4, 2010
Kade & Ashe were my first set of newborn twins that I was able to work with. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was thinking that things were going to not go as smoothly as they did. I mean, sometimes just one newborn can be difficult to work with, let alone stay asleep! Well, these guys were troopers and did fantastic. We positioned them all kinds of ways, and they stayed asleep the whole time. I gotta admit that I was pleasantly surprised with how things went and how well the photos turned out. Kade & Ashe have a big brother, Finn, who was missing from the action. Maybe this summer we can get them all together! In the meantime, enjoy Kade & Ashe’s adorable photos!!!

“I’ve got my eye on you!” Well, I think his eyes were opening and closing during his REM sleep cycle, but I thought the caption would be fitting.

This position took a little bit of work, so once we had it, I photographed it from all different angles!

Kade is over a pound bigger than Ashe, and you can really see that here.

Nolan Cullen
Posted on March 4, 2010
This little guy was sleepy the whole time, but if we moved him some way he didn’t like, he sure let us know it! We got him in some great positions, and then he woke up for some photos at the very end. It was short-lived, though, since he realized that he was starving!! He ate and was happy again, just in time for the ride home. Presenting, Nolan Cullen! Up next… twin boys

Stretch!

Awake and happy for about a minute

Teagan Nicole
Posted on March 4, 2010
Little Teagan did fantastic for her newborn photoshoot, even though it did take a little bit to get her to fall asleep. Even asleep, she wasn’t a huge fan of the hats on her head. We did get a couple of shots, but that’s all she let us do. Once the hats were off, though, she fell asleep and let us do our thing with her. Enjoy! The rest are boys from here on out
She was wide awake in the beginning of the session, so we used it to get some shots of her awake. Notice how she is slightly cross-eyed in this photo? I love when newborns do that!

Cole Michael – 9 months
Posted on March 4, 2010
I have quite a few blog postings today, so I’ll keep things short. I last saw Cole when he was 6 months old, and we took his family’s photos as well. Now that I got my lighting sorted out in my new studio, it was incredibly easy photographing Cole! I am in love with these photos and even intend to blow up one of them to put in my studio. I need to have at least one photo on display that shows my work in my new place, after all.
Stay tuned for 3 more blog postings, all of them newborns!!

Bennett & Beau
Posted on March 1, 2010
I adore these boys. I didn’t have the chance to work with them when Bennett turned 9 months, since we couldn’t get our schedules to line up at all. Believe me, we tried! Now, Bennett is 1, and Beau will turn 3 in July. Bennett is part of my “Watch Me Grow” program, and I will see him again in July for their “make-up” session from December.
Bennett & Beau personality-wise are totally different. Beau is active, stubborn, and willful, while Bennett is laid back, relaxed, and content with sitting in one place for longer than 5 minutes. They compliment each other perfectly. Beau wasn’t feeling up to taking pictures until the very end of the session, so most of the photos are of Bennett… but after all, it is his birthday.

There’s Beau!

Love the tongue!

Brady Thomas
Posted on March 1, 2010
This little guy was passed out when we got to the studio, however when he got there, he had messed up his diaper.
Well, in order to try some of the shots I wanted to try, he needed to be naked, so diaper change it was. That diaper change woke him up for the rest of the session! And, once we did get him to sleep, he wouldn’t let his pacifier go. There was only one time during the whole session where we got him to sleep peacefully without his pacifier in, and those pictures turned out great! We even got a cute little elf hat on him. Brady was a great example of the first lesson that babies teach you… they are going to do what they want, when they want to! Well, little Brady, we still captured some great shots of you, despite your lack of sleep

Ok… we got him asleep, on the bean bag…

Now, take out the pacifier and put on the hat… voila!

So, I had exhausted all of the possible shots in that position, so it was time to re-position to his tummy. That didn’t work, so in went the pacifier again.

I moved him to do this and just had a chance to get one shot off, because right after I released the shutter, he let us know that he was done with all of this photography posing. I’m still happy we got him to sleep for at least some of the time!

Evan & Ben
Posted on February 22, 2010
I believe this is my 4th (?) time photographing Evan and my 2nd time photographing Ben. It was also my first session in my new studio! I knew my way around my old studio, since I had been working in there for over 2 years. I was a little off my game in this place. There were no lights to work with, only the natural lighting coming through the windows! I am very happy with the results, even though I had to work hard to get rid of some of that direct sunlight, which I plan to fix very soon! Evan is turning 18 months and was definitely your average 18-month-old boy. It was sure alot easier letting him run around in a bigger area than my old studio. :)

Ben with his buddy, “Hector”

Mom got him to sit still long enough for this quick shot. Notice the bubbles in his hair

Charlie & Christian
Posted on February 22, 2010
These two are definitely in love. You could feel it all day being around them. It was my first same sex marriage ceremony, so it was a brand new experience for me… or at least I thought. Aside from Charlie & Christian being the same sex, it was just like a regular wedding day. Another first for me that day was working at the U of MN McNamara Alumni Center. What a gorgeous, GORGEOUS facility! It was so much fun working there all day. They had both their wedding ceremony and reception there. Charlie is brother to Luke from Luke & Kate, who’s Mom is really good friends with my mom. I was honored when Charlie & Christian asked me to document their wedding day. It was definitely a blast to be a part of!
Ok, this thing was cool. It was the cake server in the shape of a stiletto. The best part is, the heal pops off for use after the wedding

Like I said above… GORGEOUS!

Luke & Kate!

This was a surprise for Christian’s sister and husband. They were married recently in Jamaica, but never had a proper first dance. They corrected that by surprising them with a first dance of their own!

Let the party begin!

Charlie loves to dance, as evidenced by this photo

Congrats! Have fun in Maui
